This morning I received a lot of texts, emails and calls regarding an outbreak of flu in the region. It does seem to be taking hold and I have seen a big rise in viruses lately, especially in kids I see. So here is a post with a few tips to get through this. A word of warning: I’m not for scare mongering and if you are healthy and strong, you have nothing at all to worry about. Concern however for the elderly, children, those who have been on a recent course of strong antibiotics, had surgery or are overly stressed, is valid and need to take care. Here are a few tips:
Get your homeopathic remedies ready. For those of you who attended my talks back in Oct/Nov will have a stock of the remedy ABC. This is the first remedy you take with the first sign of any acute, sore throat, fever, shivers runny nose. Another remedy, especially for fever which I am seeing regularly is Rhus. Tox. Oscillococcinum, easily available over the counter, can be taken as a preventative or to reduce severity should you start to show symptoms. WARNING: Knowing when to change remedies or when a case has gone to far, can be tricky to spot and so knowing what course of action to take seems to be a difficult decision. I am available for any questions if you have any, although keep an eye out for these signs, indicating stronger treatment is needed:
- Lingering, prolonged fever: This will weaken the body and especially in the vulnerable listed above. Potentially lead to a secondary bacterial infections, antibiotics will then need to be considered.
- Strong Green/Yellow mucus: This could be the sign of a deeper infections and stay in close contact with your health practitioner should stronger treatment be needed.
As I mentioned through my talks, treating an acute homeopathically usually means a number of remedy changes, for different stages of an acute. Start with your inflammation (fever)/ABC remedy but expect to need a remedy to follow on to. Homeopathy is fantastic for treating acute illness such as flu. It relieves symptoms, cuts short duration and improves recovery afterwards.
This is so important and essential. Influenza is a virus and needs a great dal of time for your body to recover. Even when you start to feel better, take it easy for about 3 days after to ensure your system is back up to strength.
I am a big fan of colloidal silver with olive leaf extract. Some people are split on this product. Colloidal silver was the go to “antibiotic” before the discovery of antibiotics. Olive Leaf Extract has been shown to have a fantastic effect on your immune system. Doses are different for adults and children, so please get in contact with any questions.
There is some truth behind chicken soup for illness. Research into its medicinal properties have shown to have some anti-inflammatory effect as well as a support for bronchial and other respiratory infections.
GINGER & HONEY TEA
When ill, your body needs optimum hydration to keep your immune system fighting. This tea offers the immune boosting effects of ginger with the known antimicrobial effects of organic honey. Add some lemon to include vitamin C.
Follow these few tips and not only can the virus pass quick should you come down with it but you will also bounce back afterwards. I’ve written this post very quick to get it out to everyone, so in a few days I’ll add references to research conducted for all to the above!
